After much long drawn out discussion the Society Earl Marshal has made a decision about the Airsoft Mod we did at Pennsic. He has decided to disallow their use at Pennsic. So if you have mandrake tips that have been modified you must remove the pellets and put foam in to pass inspection at the point. I know this is hard to take but it is the call the man in charge made. Now for the good news. Ice Falcons spear tips are good to go and … 2″ homemade tips are legal as well. so we have a bunch of options for good tips that will pass muster. Sadly not the clever functional Airsoft mod so many of us like.

So you want to be the Kingdom Seneschal? Thoughts from a prior East Kingdom Seneschal.

Recently, the call went out that the position of East Kingdom Seneschal will be open at the end of 2013. http://seneschal.eastkingdom.org/positions.html. The deadline to respond is July 18, 2013.

This got me thinking about conversations I have had in the past with potential applicants who were interested in the position.

The first thing to consider is why you would want to do this. The position of Kingdom Seneschal is not for glory. Your voice, your opinion, is the law within the Kingdom. When the crisis hits, when you think all is calm, and something comes up, it is up to you to deal with it. You are the leader of the team. At all times, you must rely on others, and remember that they are volunteers also.

You are responsible for advising the royalty on laws and policies. This means that you need to have an extensive knowledge of Kingdom and Society governing documents. You will need to remember that the royalty have stress of their own, and their jobs are as hard, if not harder than yours. Advising them means that you will need to properly instruct them on whether or not they can take desired actions, and, you will need to be able to tell them when they can’t, and why. Your job is to make sure that they are protected, and that their reign goes as smoothly as possible. (more…)

Ex Kingdom Seneschale Throws Down Gauntlet

Baroness Katherine Barr, former Seneschale of the East, evened up the sides in the Laurels vs. Pelicans melee by joining the Pelicans yesterday. “I thought I would give the Laurels a fighting chance by not using my shield and sword, Dietrich, from last year.”

Fundraising for the melee was supposed to end tonight so the weapons makers had time to construct specialty weapons. Sir Michael of York and Lord Gregory of York, who build the weapons with a team of volunteers, have offered to extend the deadline. (more…)

Unofficial Court Report: Spring War Practice

In a round room, with torrential rains falling beyond its walls, The Mighty King Gregor held His court at East Kingdom Southern Region War Practice. Surrounded by the local populace as well as all those who had traveled a greater distance, He welcomed the new Prince of AEthelmearc, Timothy of Arindale into His Court, and remarked on the excitement and joy surrounding having a former King of the East, and such a dear friend, win the Crown Tournament of AEthelmearc. His Highness AEthelmearc presented His Majesty with a gift and spoke of how nice it was to be welcomed so warmly.

Laurels and Pelicans Get Silly For The Kingdom

This year’s list of Laurels and Pelicans has been announced for the Laurels vs. Pelicans boffer melees. The fundraiser will benefit the Pennsic war chest. Peers are given weapons based on how much money is donated in their name. They can take the field at Panteria with something as small as a dagger or as fantastical as a giant scorpion. To support your favorite peer, go to www. laurelsvspelicans.com. Any peer who hasn’t signed up and wants to should send an email to the organizers.

Available weapons and their cost are:
Dagger – $25
Sword – $50
Sword and Shield – $75
Specialty Weapon – $100

Tournament Results: Eastern Crown

The following is the report of Lady Sabina Luttrell, East Kingdom Minister of Lists, on the Spring Crown Tournament held in the Crown Province of Ostgardr on April 27^th, 2013

The following warriors entered the lists on a gorgeous spring day to compete for the honor of becoming Prince of the East Kingdom and crowning their consort as Princess.

There were 4 round robin lists to start the day. The top 4 combatants (*starred*) were taken from each pool to compete in a double elimination tournament.

Unofficial Court Report from K&Q Champions

The populace of the East Kingdom gathered together in the Shire of Rusted Woodlands on the 4^th of the month of May Anno Societatis 48, called in the Common Era, 2013, to witness the great feats of it’s own warriors as they competed for the honor of being the King’s or Queen’s Champion of Arms. As befits an event which is the first of a fresh new year, the air was filled with the fresh promise of Spring and the sights of many where fixed upon great new potential. The format for the day’s competition was explained, as the scent of fire and meat filled the air from the day board offerings. His Majesty gathered all around to speak of the meaning of that for which they fought this day. Drawing the sword of state from it’s sheath as it was held by his soon to be retired champion, Brennan mac Fearghus, he read the motto etched upon it, Justitia Virtutum Regina recited it’s translation, Justice is Queen of Virtues, and then discussed the deeper meaning and great honor behind the statement.
