Baroness Eleri of Nefyn, Mistress of the Pelican, and a beloved member of the Barony of Concordia and the East Kingdom for more than 30 years, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, after a long illness.

My husband, Joel of Vestfell, and I told Mistress Lylie that we were willing to be her cooks for Coronation some time during War of the Roses. Joel and I are a very well-balanced team when it comes to cooking. I’m better at ideas, while he’s better at large-scale execution. Additionally, he’d been reading medieval cookbooks for fun. So we collected up our cookbooks from the appropriate time period (including ordering a copy of Libellus De Arte Coquinaria: An Early Northern Cookery Book to give us some Danish options for recipes). They went with us on vacation this summer, where we spent a few evenings reading and discussing possiblilities.
Here are the conventions and format for the upcoming King’s & Queen’s Rapier Champions tournament! If there are any questions, feel free to direct them to me and I’ll clarify them immediately. Hopefully this will be mostly straightforward, and we can look forward to a day of great fighting.
Please note that any authorized rapier fighter may participate in this tournament, but only those who are willing and able to perform the duties of a Champion of the East Kingdom and affirm as such when signing in with the MoL will be able to advance from their round robin pool into the sweet sixteen. In response to several inquiries, this is an explanation of the development of the Ordo of Edward II and Thyra (which I choose to call the “Ordo Concordiae”, because of the site as well as the treaty which appears in the ceremony). The Ordo may be read at http://tinyurl.com/clzhrjn
The general theme of the Ordo originated in the service used for the previous coronation, that of Kenric and Avelina (the “Ordo Saecularis Anglo-Saxonicus”). A report on that Ordo appears at http://tinyurl.com/7et7rrn.

In public consistory, at the time of the solemn and royal court held at Concordia of the Snows, a brilliant assembly of counts and barons being in session, and a very great multitude of nobles and commoners standing before the most serene lord Edward King of the East, and Thyra his Queen, for the purpose of exhibiting the fullness of justice to each person, the said king and the said queen, according to law, did do and cause to be done the following:

The body of King Kenric was brought by Queen Avelina to the stately cathedral in the Barony of Concordia of the Snows. His pallbearers carried his regal body in on a bier before the assembled court. The hall was silent at the sight of the great War king. Behind the bier walked the Queen, accompanied by her heralds, her guards, and her attendants as the sounds of Pange Melos Lacrimosum accompanied them from the musicians gallery.
The Queen addressed the populace, her sad voice executing the will of the late king as she gave out the King’s cyphers. No vivats interrupted the King’s last business. His body was removed to be released for his final journey by fire. His eyes were covered by coins and a lyre was clasped to his chest. (more…)
