Work Together with Your Officers

March 26, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

badge SeneschalThe following message is from Mistress Katherine Barr, East Kingdom Seneschal, and Sandi Donner, SCA Regional VP of Operations.

Greetings to the Kingdom.

I would like to discuss officer relations within the East Kingdom.

The Kingdom Officers are responsible for protecting the Kingdom, assisting the royalty, and are also here to help you, the Local Officers.  However, this is a two-way street and must have the Local Officers’ assistance as well.  In no way should it be viewed as a Kingdom Officer versus Local Officer venue.  We need to work together.

So, how do we do this better?  Here are a few guidelines. (more…)

A Note to the Kingdom about the Running of the Toybox

March 26, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

A message to the East Kingdom from His Highness, Brennan: We love the tradition of the Toy Box. It’s my (and many people’s) favorite part of court. I wanted to take a minute to mention some of the ways that Their Majesties Ivan & Matilde (and many of our predecessors) have sought to make the …

Completion of the East’s Migration to Google

March 24, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

badge WebministerGreetings unto the Populace from the Webministry of the East Kingdom!

I am pleased to report that the last cleanup steps of the migration of our email services to Google are done, the project is complete.

Obviously, this has been a massive undertaking, and while I have been the primary public face and the project manager, many other people have been involved to varying degrees. Without all of the assistance (and assistants!) this would not have gone as well as it did. By my best estimate, this undertaking was approximately 1.25 man-years of effort, a huge portion of it quite skilled work done by actual IT professionals. Early on in the process I worked up what my own employer would have quoted as a price for this, and it came to approximately a half a million dollars. (more…)

Information About The Upcoming Coronation

March 24, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

En français

Greetings unto the East!

The Shire of Quintavia is honored to be hosting the Coronation of Brennan III and Caoilfhionn III on April 7, 2018. As that day quickly approaches, we would like to bring some things to your attention before you join us.

1) Pre-registration is available via PayPal or physical mail. PayPal will be available until March 28. All mailed pre-registrations must be postmarked April 1 or earlier. Tir Marans may pay the pre-reg rate at the door, provided they have submitted the rest of the needed information ahead of time. Please visit the website for further information.

2) The site has a hard out time of 6 pm overall, but 5:30 from the sanctuary. That means we need to be cleaned up from the sanctuary area by 5:30. If you are able to help with that for a few minutes, many hands will make light work. Lord Andreiko Eferiev and Lady Peronelle de Croy will be leading the cleanup and decor teams, respectively.

3) In the light of the Parkland tragedy, the church has updated their weapons policy to a ban. As such, we ask that you please leave anything larger than an eating knife at home. This includes rapiers, spears, halberds, belt knives with blades larger than six inches, arrows, and trebuchets. (We have received permission for bows without arrows and for the Sword of State.) Signet Office Announcement – Backlog Scrolls Ready for Release

March 23, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

A message from the Backlog Deputy of the Tyger Clerk of the Signet

Greetings!  I’m Æsa feilinn Jossursdottir (known by most as Feilinn), your Backlog Deputy. I have a plethora of backlog scrolls ready for delivery to their recipients.

Over the next few months, I will be working with the scribal community and event staff to have these backlogs available for the recipient to pick up at upcoming Royal Progress events.

The first opportunity to pick up Backlog Scrolls will be at the Coronation of Brennan III and Caoilfhionn III in Quintavia on April 7th.  Pick up will be available at the A&S display with me (Feilinn).  Just ask for me!

The next opportunity will be geared to Tir Mara residents and will be at Crown Tournament in Ruantallan on May 5th.  Pick up will be available directly with Mistress Eva Woderose.

It is strongly suggested to email the Backlog Deputy to confirm that you will be picking up a scroll.  Local landed Barons/Baronesses and Seneschals are encouraged to pick up scrolls on behalf of members in their local groups if they know the recipient and the recipient cannot make these events.  More pickups will be organized as the year goes on. If you want to arrange pick up outside of these events, please email the Backlog Deputy to discuss.

The following scrolls have been completed and are awaiting pick up:

Day of the Decameron immersion event to take place in April 2019

March 20, 2018 by East Kingdom Gazette

Good lords and ladies sitting in a salon, eating fine foods, drinking fine wine, listening to stories. Laughter, merriment. Gasps and ‘oh no she/he/they didn’t!’

This is the setting for an event to take place in the East Kingdom on April 27, 2019. A group of performers and organizers are planning to immerse event goers in the late 14th century of Florence, Italy, via stories from The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio.

Lady Lilie Dubh inghean ui Mordha is a bardic performer who has been awed by the productions of both Beowulf and Njal’s Saga. She took the immersion idea and found something that clicked for her. The Decameron is a series of stories told by people escaping from the Black Death in Florence in the mid 14th century. The book was published first in the 1350s, and again in the 1370s, just before the author’s death. The stories range from silly and fun, to scary, to witty and lively, to downright Bawdy. (more…)
