We have recently discovered that the “Ask a Herald” link on the EK homepage was not properly forwarding requests. We are working to retreive any requests which may have been backlogged at this time. I know you have been patient in awaiting responses to your inquiries but I must ask for a little more time.
Greetings and every good thing to all to whom these letters come.
As we approach the coming campaign to… um… become closer to our fair friends of the Midrealm by acquiring lands adjacent to their lands, the Kingdom’s eyes turn Westward.
In just over a month the War Arrow shall be broken and the Horn shall sound. The populace of the known world shall gather on the field of Pennsic to bear witness.
In order to facilitate Opening Ceremonies an organizational meeting of the Kingdom War Heralds will be held in EK Royal at 4pm on Saturday August 1st. Following the War Heralds’ meeting at 5pm will be a organizational meeting for all those East Kingdom Territorial Heralds who will be leading their Provinces, Baronies, and Shires in opening ceremonies. I am STRONGLY encouraging all groups who wish to be represented in the procession to send a representative to this meeting. As the principal participants of the War are changing this year the ceremony will be unlike any before it.
Opening Ceremonies will be starting at 9am on Sunday August 2nd. The Royal procession will be stepping off from EK Royal at approximately 8:45am. I am asking that all groups be present and ready to go at 8:30am.
Baron Phillip Reed the Facetious, OP (Scott P. R. Berk, MD), became Chairman of the Board of Directors on Saturday, October 25.
Says Master Phillip of his new position, “I am honored to continue the progress the SCA has made to this point and look forward to continue leading the changes necessary for our organization to grow in the future.”
There has been a problem brewing for several years as the East Kingdom has modernized. This problem is with one of our longest standing Heraldic Titles. The Eastern Crown Herald has been the primary Submissions Herald for the Kingdom of the East. The title is derived from the heraldic charge The Eastern Crown, which is a specific type of crown which is displayed both in the Heraldry of the Kingdom and the Badge of the Order of the Silver Crescent.
As time has gone on the title Eastern Crown Herald has been misinterpreted in several ways. Some have taken it to refer to the herald of the Crown of the East, the lead herald of a reign. Some have confused it with the Principal Herald of the East. Continue reading
Unto Our Beloved Allies of the East, Joyous Greetings;
It is an auspicious time for the East. On the tail of the magnificent reign of glorious Kenric and most noble Avelina comes the trumpets of Empire. Thus do mighty Brennan Augustus and radiant Caoilfhionn Augusta assume their rightful place as rulers of this glorious kingdom!
We in Acre do stand in awe and with happy hearts!
We, Damien Rex and Tara Regina, by right of blood and arms King and Queen of Acre, felt blessed to have simply been there to see it. Indeed, we would have accepted simply that and called it fortune beyond avarice. But Their Majesties are most generous, for they as well as Their Excellencies Baron Erec and Baroness Jehannine of Settmour Swamp received us as honored guests, honoring us with a place beside them in Court and among them at High Table, to enjoy the fine and unrivaled fare that only those of the East could provide. For this, for their great friendship, and for so much more, mere gratitude will never be enough. We count ourselves most fortunate indeed to be among your allies, and that we may together make deeper and mightier still the historic friendship between us. Indeed, any who call themselves an enemy of the East will be forced to meet the swords of Acre beside you all and face the folly of their choice to defy the Empire of the Tyger!
The future is bright indeed. Many a great song will be sung and happy tale will be told in the times to come as these most august and resplendent sovereigns forge their immortal legacies in the hearts of their beloved subjects and allies, and carve it upon their enemies’ many graves.
Long live Brennan and Caoilfhionn, and great may they rule! And long live the East! Vivat!
Yours in Eternal Friendship,
King of Acre

Greetings from the Brigantia Principal Herald of the Kingdom of the East.
At Curia on Jan 26th in Stonemarche it was proposed by Baron Rowen H.E. to their Majesties and I to eliminate the requirement for Shires to have a Herald. The reasoning was, when the requirement was added in January 2002, that having a local officer for heraldic consultation was a very good thing. This requirement was more than what Corpora requires of Shires.
With the advent of the Ask A Herald system and with the pervasiveness of the internet into our lives this requirement has become, in certain circles, viewed as a burden instead of a benefit. Thusly it was moved to strike that additional requirement and bring EK Law into line with Corpora.
Thusly, EK Law Section VII.H.3.b, which required Shires to have heralds is no more. EK Law Section VII.H.3.c will be merged with Section VII.H.3.b and will require a “Herald, Knight Marshal, or Minister of Arts and Sciences” as a shire officer.
Now that the legalese is out of the way. This does not mean the positions are going away. It only means the position of Shire Herald is no longer required for a local group to exist. I would prefer to see those who are Heralds of Shires continue their work and be a benefit to their local groups.
