Pennsic War Point for Volunteering
At this year’s Pennsic War, the big-hearted people of the East Kingdom will have yet another opportunity to demonstrate the greatness of our Kingdom. At the suggestion of the Queens of the East and Middle Kingdoms, a new war point for volunteering is being instituted. For the 24-hour period spanning Tuesday, July 30th (the Tuesday of War Week) from midnight to midnight, each and every volunteer will be counted. Every location at Pennsic that is staffed by volunteers will record the name and Kingdom affiliation of each volunteer during that time period. The side with the most hours volunteered will be awarded a War Point towards Pennsic victory.
For those unfamiliar with all of the jobs that are filled by volunteers at Pennsic, this article from Pennsic 41 (2012) has a great detailed list of many of the departments that need volunteers and what skills and labor are needed. [EDIT: Please note that this is an old list of volunteer opportunities and is *not* the definitive list for this year’s Volunteering War Point] Everyone can do their part for the war in more ways than one by signing up to help with their favorite activity.
I’m wondering why marshaling only counts as volunteering if it is for armored combat, not for the other marshaled war points? This seems a slap-in-the-face to the hard-working marshals of thrown weapons, rapier and archery. Hmmm…
Ygraine, where did you get that particular tidbit (that marshaling only counts as volunteering if its for armored combat)? I don’t see it in the article above…
Battlefield marshaling is the only marshaling listed on the whole page of volunteering.
Ygraine, I’m so sorry that the article wasn’t clear… the list of volunteer opportunities that the article links to is a list from last Pennsic that shows some examples of what might be needed at Pennsic for those who aren’t familiar with the breadth of volunteer opportunities available. It is not the definitive list of what is or will be available this year for the Volunteer War Point.
I would also point out that the PW 41 staff names on that article linked in the post are no longer correct. Please feel free to contact any Division or Department head on the current PW 42 staff list at http://pennsicwp.org/about/staff-directory/ to ask about volunteer opportunities.

Hello,
Please know that volunteer opportunities are still being worked out. As I understand it, any of the normal places are certainly wonderful . . . ie Troll, Information Point, Security etc.
The Staff of the Volunteer War Point Project (VWPP) will have a complete list posted as soon as possible and of course if someone has a suggestion, please contact me and I will see about getting it added to the list.
Also, we will have a HUGE map with all of the volunteer locations marked at Information point to help people find opportunities if they are interested.
Every volunteer location will track volunteers on Tuesday of War Week for the volunteer points. Especially needed are volunteers to sign up and help clean up the woods after the Tuesday’s Woods battles. There may also be a large scale hay bale move on the battlefield that evening to set up for Thursday.
There is always a sign at Info Point that says where volunteers are needed on any given day. Every point needs volunteers. But please also remember that volunteers are needed all Pennsic and not just on Tuesday. Pennsic staff is currently looking at ways to track volunteers by their kingdoms all Pennsic long and post that after the War as well.

Chai,
We would be happy to do a more comprehensive article on volunteering opportunities so people can plan ahead if there is someone on your staff who might have time to help us get the information organized and be sure it’s accurate.
