Pennsic 53 Archery News – Monday, Aug. 3
Pennsic Archery usually has a theme, and this year it’s The Wizard of Oz!
THL Alrekr Bergsson, Aethelmearc Archer General, shared this recently: “The populace will have the opportunity to shoot at Flying Monkeys on the Advancing Man range. In a twist (pun intended) on the Castle Window Shoot, archers will be shooting into a tornado, hoping to knock Dorothy’s house out and to safety. On the Clout Range, archers can shoot their way through the Haunted Forest at 50 yards, or shoot the Wicked Witch of the West herself in the castle at 100 yards.” And the theme continues for those competing on the Archery Champions Teams who will “have the opportunity to participate in a 10-target walkthrough range that follows Dorothy’s trip through Oz. There will also be a Friend/Foe shoot where you must stop Ms. Gulch from riding off with Toto, and the Walk-Up Clout will have archers trying to stop the hot air balloon from leaving without Dorothy.”
Results from the second day of War Point shooting have not been finalized, but the totals are roughly 4000 East vs 2500 Middle. Actual numbers will be reported when they become available.
In other archery news, the Pennsic Flight Shoot (shooting for distance) was held Friday morning, July 31. Naran Numuchi, Khan, Great Dark Horde, organized and provided the prizes for this year’s shoot. He has reported these results:
Period Bow: #1. Clive The Fletcher, Midrealm, 227.5 yds. #2. Naran Khan, GDH, 199.4 yds. #3. Eirik Gralokkr, Atlantia, 194.0 yds.
Open Handbow: #1. Toki, Trimaris, 209.5 yds. #2. Padraig , Atlantia 188.3 yds. #3. Elska Farfelli, 185.0 yds.
Crossbow: #1 Gladius, Midrealm, 229.2 yds. #2 Merlin Wynn, CAID, 194.1 yds. #3, Annabel Radleigh, CAID, 184.1 yds.
Master Gladius deserves especial mention, for his carefully crafted fletchless, fluted bolts.
The Record of 289 yards, set by Naran Bagsh in 2019, stands.
