Call for Applicants: East Kingdom Chamberlain

February 25, 2020 by East Kingdom Gazette

badge East ChamberlainGood morning, East!

The Kingdom needs a new Chamberlain. Oscar’s term is up soon, though he’s staying on to shepherd Their Highnesses’ transition to the throne and train his replacement.

Are you in search of a new area of service? Or is there someone who would be good at this position in your general orbit?

Please email me at seneschal@eastkingdom.org and I’ll get more details to you.

Thanks

Mistress Medhbh inghean Ui Cheallaigh
East Kingdom Seneschal

********** February 24, 2020 Job Description; Kingdom Chamberlain:

The Kingdom Chamberlain and their deputies are the “Keepers of the Regalia”. The Regalia are the Kingdom owned collection of Crowns, Thrones, banners and other heraldry, Royal garb, and a fine collection of general items.

To this end they, or their deputies:
  • Secure and maintain a storage location, private or commercial.
  • Maintain the Airtable Database of the Things
  • Identify any needed repairs and effect these repairs themselves, or solicit gentles amongst the populace to take these projects on. Note: There are always good gentles wiling to do projects for their Royals, and the Royals are generally willing to help out with the feeding and care of the Regalia.
  • Coordinate with the sitting Reign for their Regalia needs and arrange for hand off/return of same.
  • Travel to Crown Tourneys and provide the new Heirs with the Necessary Regalia.
  • Attend Coronation to assure and account for the transfer of Regalia from Outgoing to Incoming Reign, and at that point retake possession of the Heirs Regalia to repeat the process 6 months later.
  • Coordinate with anyone else who may need to make use of the Regalia. Generally speaking these requests are few, save for the keeping and providing of the list trees used in Crown Tourney or Heavy Championship events either directly to the event, or to a member of the populace traveling to same. Note: The setup and running of the trees during the event is the task of the Kingdom Jongleur Herald. There is also the occasional request for Regalia for use in the East Kingdom Royal encampment at Pennsic. One other recent request was for Regalia to be present at the East Kingdom 50th anniversary event.
To facilitate these things they, and/or their deputies:
  • Have reasonable organizational skills.
  • Maintain the simple budget in place for storage and repairs.
  • Are capable of schlepping when needed. Although there is always help at events, there generally is not at the storage location, and although none of it is overly hefty some physical ability, or reliable available help is required.
  • Have, or know someone who has a truck, large van, or small trailer and the ability to pull it. There has been a conversation about the Kingdom acquiring a small trailer to increase the pool of candidates for this position as now only the towing vehicle would be required. At this point this is still in the discussion stages. Preliminary agreement was verbally secured from all involved.

As of the date above there is one deputy: Duchess Caoilfhionn inghean Fhaoláin. While she is not able to take on the Chamberlain position per se, she is gifted with great organizational skills as well as the ability to make friends with photography and the Database of the Things.

To whomever is to be my successor: I will provide explanation and guidance as needed during the handover of the Regalia at a location of your choice. The Regalia are currently stored in Bethlehem, PA, but it is customary for them to be near the Chamberlains location so I will facilitate this move.
YIS, Oscar Goerijs Goriszoon, OP.
