Her Excellency, Mistress Lucia Francesca de Valencia, third baroness of Concordia of the Snows, passed away on Thursday, July 30th following a long illness. Mistress Lucia was recognized for her service with the Order of the Silver Crescent and the Pelican. She was made a Companion of the Maunche for her work in the arts. She was also given the Queen’s Order of Courtesy by Queen Geneviere for her beloved graciousness, which will be missed by so many.
Master Caine Ramsey and Master Jean-Paul Ducasse shared these words about the loss felt by many.
“As is far too common when we lose a beloved friend, we find ourselves groping for the right words to express the loss that we feel; or the void that is left by their passing.
Mistress Lucia Francesca de Valencia, 3rd Landed Baroness of Concordia of the Snows was one of those people. The overwhelming sense of belonging and welcomeness that she showed to all, be they a baronial member or not helped to swell the ranks of the Society and acted as a marker for many members of what it meant to be a peer and a leader in the SCA.
Generous to a fault with her time, she would often spend hours on end making sure that if you had an interest in something that you would be introduced to a person leading in that field.
It was however her joy, hearty and infections laughter that set her apart in the SCA. She always shared the simple joys most of all, companionship a cool drink on a hot day, or a warm smile & a story. She encouraged this in all she met and in retrospect, this will be her greatest legacy to the SCA.”
