How Crown Tourney Runs Sweet Sixteen Onwards

October 27, 2012 by East Kingdom Gazette

The top two combatants from each of the eight pools advance to form a standard double elimination bracket with a few modifications.

What is a double elimination bracket?

A double elimination format means that a combatant must lose two fights to be eliminated. When a combatant loses a fight, he or she will then be moved to a separate list with other fighters who have lost one fight.  Each time one of those fighters loses a fight in that list, he or she is eliminated.  The two lists run simultaneously – those who have won all their bouts and those who have lost one – until four people remain.  Two of those are from the “losers” list and two are undefeated.

The modifications to the double elimination bracket

The first round in the winners’ list and first two rounds in the losers’ list will be decided by one fight and combatants may choose their weapon form. The next two rounds in each list will be best two out of three.

The weapons for the first two out of three (winners list second round and losers list third round) will be as follows.  First fight will use polearm.  Second fight, the combatants must use the same weapons form and it will be decided by the combatant lowest in the Order of Precedence.  If there is a third fight, combatants’ choice.

The weapons for the first two out of three (winners list third round and losers list fourth round) will be as follows.  First fight will use greatsword.  Second fight, the combatants must use the same weapons form and it will be decided by the combatant highest in the Order of Precedence.  If there is a third fight, combatants’ choice.
