Greetings to the Teachers of the Known World,

We are very excited to announce the return of the YouthU and TeenU tracks of Pennsic University this year.

We are looking for teachers who are interested in teaching classes to 11-13 year olds or to those gentles who are 14-17. These classes will be taught in the Pennsic University tents. Please make sure to include a second, unrelated adult in your planning for all classes. No youth teaching experience or certification is required. Continue reading →

scribeAll Things Scribal – Late Winter Northern Edition

MARCH 9th, 2013
Eliot Baptist Church
912 Harold Dow Highway
Eliot, Maine 03903

Greetings to the East! We are looking for teachers for ALL THINGS SCRIBAL! We would love teachers for all levels of classes.

  • Do you want to teach but don’t know what to teach? Contact Honig or Camille and we can tell you what some of the “requested” classes are.  For example, I would like someone who is very good at fixing mistakes to hold a class. Please show scribes how to scrape, dab, cover, fudge and fix those scrolls that need it. Nobody wants to learn how to fix on a scroll that is due in a few days.
  • Do you have a talent for writing words? We would love to know some of your process! How do you make it look so easy?
  • Do you have a little trick you would like to share? We are going to set up stations for the 30 Second Scribal University…for example: I want a refresher on how to use an Ames lettering guide but don’t need to sit through the beginning calligraphers class.
  • Would you like to consult on scrolls? Someone may be having trouble with a small part of the process and the nearest scribe lives far away.

To join in the fun, or simply ask a question, please email:

Ro Honig von Sommerfeldt   or  Camille De Jardins

We can also be reached over Facebook.

master with students - florence mascomini 1492It’s time to start thinking about Novice Schola 2013 in the Barony of Bergental (Springfield, MA). It is earlier this year (Feb 9th) so I won’t be able to give you as much leeway for dithering about whether or not to teach a class.

Some classes are old favorites and we need those as our backbone. Newer classes that we haven’t had before are also a big draw for our returning students. The only requirement is that it be a beginning class – either the absolute beginning of a topic or skill, or beginning of a more advanced or complicated skill or topic. Most time frames are 1-hour blocks but we can accommodate 2-hour, 3-hour, and all-day classes (although all-day classes are tough to schedule if we have more than one of them).  It is unlikely that we will be able to have outdoor classes due to the unpredictability of the weather in early Feb.

I also need to know if there is a class limit (number of students, hands on vs. auditors), age limit, and cost for materials. It is unlikely that many students will be able to bring materials to classes even if advertised ahead of time, so plan on your students needing you to bring tools for them to use and materials to practice on.

There is no special track this year, so anything is welcome. If you are not sure, email your questions to me. Please email me (Lady Barbeta Kyrkeland) at harpnfiddle @ pobox.com (take out the spaces) and put Novice Schola 2013 as the subject.
