Known World Mail Service Being Decommissioned
Greetings from the office of the Vice President for Information Management
and Technology for SCA, Inc.
Good gentles,
The Known World Mail (KWM) service was established by SCA Corporate many
years ago, in a time when mail services were commodities, and not commonly
available without considerable expense. As expected, technologies and market
adoption have both matured over time. Today, free and inexpensive mails
service options from providers like Google, Yahoo, AOL and many others
abound. Of course, as an organization, we have no desire to compete with
such abundant offerings, nor to fail in protecting information members have entrusted to us.
Given its many years of service, we believe the Known World Mail
service has exceeded its intended lifespan, and are now preparing to
decommission it. This message is intended to serve as notice of this action.
Users with active KWM mailboxes were previously informed via direct e-mails earlier today.
With the exception of the mail domain supporting the SCA College of Heralds
[heraldry.sca.org], the SCA, Inc. mail server will discontinue hosted mail
operations (e.g. KWM) effective February 1, 2015. Please note: The root mail
domain SCA.ORG was previously migrated to a commercial hosting service and
will not be impacted by this action.
Thank you for allowing us to have served you.
Thank you,
Michael Schneider
