Announcement from the Earl Marshal
To my beloved Crown, Heirs and Populace of the East Kingdom,
With a heavy heart it is time for me to announce that I, Syr Samson will be stepping down from the position of Earl Marshal East following Pennsic LIII. I can not overstate the honor and pleasure it has been to serve Crown and Kingdom as Deputy to the Earl Marshal for the previous year and since this May, with the responsibility of shepherding the East through Pennsic LIII, as Earl Marshal East. This was a known short tenure, as Martha and I are extremely honored to be chosen by Crown and the Crown Province of Ostgardr to be the next Viceregents! And while our service to the Crown and Kingdom does not end with this announcement, East, please believe you as a Kingdom make it difficult to say goodbye as Earl Marshal.
Earl Marshal is not singular and there are so many people I wish to thank for their tireless dedication to their offices and the people of the East. Our Kingdom officers of each discipline, Maestro Malcolm Bowman Marshal of Fence, Baron Ryan Mac Whyte Captain-General of the Archers, Master Vopiscus Rufius Donatus Combat Archery Marshal, THL Matteo Genovese Thrown Weapons Marshal, both our outgoing Siege Marshal, THL Quentus Quinctilius Mortis and our incoming Siege Marshal, THL Albrecht Anker, Sir Trentus Nubianus Marshal of Armored Combat, Brian of Stonemarche Marshal of Armored Steel Combat, Master Margrave Hillarius Clock Werk Youth Earl Marshal, and Baroness Lillian Stanhope Marshal of Equestrian Activities. It has been pure joy to collaborate with each and every one of you this past year and a half.
We also have several positions within the Office of the Earl Marshal with people who have been serving with distinction, Duchess Caoilfhionn inghean Fhaolain Dean of the East Kingdom War College, THL Benjamin Black von Mosta Deputy Earl Marshal for Rules Clarification, Lærifaðir Durin Bastion Deputy Earl Marshal, THL Antonius Graccius known as Twyg Webminister of the Earl Marshal, THL Eva Vach Wyllt Clerk of the Earl Marshal and Sahyidatyi Thurayya bint Sitt al-Sirr- Deputy Clerk of the Earl Marshal. Quite simply, I would not have been able to perform the duties of this office without these people. My beloved East Kingdom, please understand these people love and serve you as much as I do and they all deserve celebration!
With this announcement comes a call to all who wish to serve the Crown and Kingdom next! We are accepting letters of intent to serve as Earl Marshal East, please email earl-marshal@eastkingdom.org your letter of intent and a brief resume to begin. The next Earl Marshal East will be announced at Coronation, date TBA.
SCA Corpora:
The Earl Marshal’s area of authority is all martial and related activities practiced in their Kingdom, both those described by the Society handbooks approved for the office and proposed as additions to those handbooks. The Earl Marshal bears primary responsibility for promoting both the safety and the authenticity of the martial and related activities in the kingdom but works with other officers in their areas of mutual interest. The Earl Marshal is responsible for issuing and maintaining authorizations for all participants and warranting marshals for their kingdom.
EK Law:
The Earl Marshal:
a. Acts as advisor in all matters pertaining to martial activities within the Kingdom to the Crown and subjects of the Kingdom.
b. Is responsible for safety and chivalry in the Lists, on the Fields, and on the Ranges.
c. Supervises and sets policy for youth martial activities.
d. Supervises the following Lesser Officers:
i. Kingdom Captain-General of Archers
ii. Kingdom Marshal of Rapier
iii. Kingdom Marshal of Equestrian Activities
iv. Kingdom Youth Earl Marshal
v. Kingdom Marshal of Thrown Weapons
vi. Kingdom Marshal of Armored Combat
vii. Dean of the East Kingdom War College
e. May make minor adjustments to the responsibilities of any of their department heads with the consent of that department head and the Kingdom Seneschal.
Once again, thank you for your trust and faith in me. It was my extreme pleasure to serve and I am excited for what comes next. I have no doubt that our tradition of excellence will continue and we will be in great hands.
