BoD Issues Updated Mission Statement

The following is a statement released by the Board of Directors:
After careful review and consideration of all feedback, the Board of Directors has decided to update the mission statement to be more inline with current society practices:

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international non-profit volunteer educational organization.
The SCA is devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, culture, and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.

The Board of Directors wishes to thank everyone who took the time to write in with their comments for the betterment of our society.

Editor’s Note: Approximately 3 weeks ago, the Board of Directors issued an updated mission statement for the Society. Many gentles wrote the BoD with their concerns about the wording, which specified a focus on only pre-seventeenth century cultures that had contact with Europe. The previous statement is below:

“The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international non-profit volunteer educational organization. SCA is devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, and culture, focused on Western Europe and its cultural contacts, and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.
