Pennsic 51 Archery
The archery range was set up on Mon., July 29, and activities have commenced!
Archery Marshals are always needed — please sign up for your preferred shifts at the marshal tent on the range. Pennsic is a great opportunity for Marshals in Training to gain experience. All Marshals and MiTs need to attend one of the orientation meetings; there are several times to choose from.
Lord Casimir is posting a daily range schedule — join “Pennsic 51 Archery” on FaceBook to see it.
Today, Friday Aug. 2, began with the Pennsic Flight Shoot — shooting for distance. Nicholas Freer reports:
“This year’s Pennsic Flight Shoot is on the books. First place goes to Clive, from the Midrealm, 220 yards, Second place to Hrolfr , from Aethelmearc with 218 yards, and Third place to Naran Khan of the Great Dark Horde, 189 yards. The record of 289 yards, set by Naran Numuchi, stands.”
Practice and tryouts for the East and Allies Archery Champions Team will be held Sat. and Sun., 5 to 7pm, with a rain-date of Mon. 5 to 7pm. All archers are encouraged to attend — it’s great practice, whether or not you are chosen for the team.
Populace War Points shooting happens 11am to 5pm on Sun., Mon., Tues. and Thurs., with practice on the actual ranges permitted 9am to 11am. The last time war points can be shot is Fri. 9am to 1pm, at which point the ranges will be dismantled — and help is always needed and welcomed. There are the usual 3 shoots, each worth 1 point to the war results: Clout, Castle Window and Soldiers. Archers can shoot a total of 5 times at each of the shoots – on separate days or multiple times on the same day.
The Archery Champions Team Competition is Wed., Aug. 7, from 9am to 3pm; the winning side earns 1 war point. The ranges are closed to all other shooting, but spectators and helpers are welcome.
There are several other opportunities for fun and challenging shooting:
Ullr’s Games – on Sat., Aug. 3, 10am to 4pm; small groups of archers (each with their own marshal) go through a course of novelty shoots.
10th Pennsic Period Shoot – on Sun., Aug. 4, 9am to noon; participants’ equipment and attire must be as “period” as possible.
Known World Baronial Champions Tourney – on Sun., Aug. 4, 1pm to 3pm – an opportunity for local champions to gain word fame!
Known World Head-to-Head Tourney – on Sun., Aug. 4, 3pm to 5pm – this is a one-on-one challenge, just like in EK Royal Champs finals.
Coke vs Moxie Challenge – on Tues., Aug. 6, 9am to 10am – a new one to this reporter, but it sounds like fun!
Youth Tournament – on Tues., Aug. 6, 10am
