Royal Encampment Volunteers Needed At Pennsic
Greetings from the East Kingdom royal encampment Major Domo!
The East Kingdom is looking for volunteers to help with hospitality and guarding for the royal encampment at Pennsic. We have a sign up form here: volunteersignup.org/3KREQ Feel free to give your SCA name instead of mundane one.
The hospitality position is a position of decorum and helpfulness rather than guarding in a traditional sense. Think of being more of a greeter, usher, or docent. We need people to explain to people when the space is or isn’t open, to answer questions, and offer refreshment. The work involves being a public face for the East, and helping us increase our ability to help the public.
Anyone is welcome to help, however minors must be accompanied by their parents. We set shifts for two hours long, but we can accommodate you if you only have one hour free. If you would like to volunteer for longer than a 2 hour shift, or multiple shifts, please do. Most of the time slots aren’t necessary for the encampment to function, but is nice to have. We greatly appreciate extra hands to share the work of running this space for the East Kingdom. If you’re looking for a way to get involved and meet some new people, please consider us, we’re happy to have you.
The job will entail mostly staying near the gate, but you may need to move around the public side of EK Royal and show people places, or ask other people questions. You’re free to stand, sit, or have a mobility device as much as our ground accommodates. You might have to answer questions, receive items that are being brought to EK Royal, and let the appropriate staff know that these items showed up. You may also be taking down messages for the Royals, Highnesses, or people who frequent the camp. There will be a staff member available as a point person for any unusual questions that might come up. We will be participating in the Pennsic Passport program, so there’s going to be stamps that you can help people with!
The guarding work will be during Runnymede dinner (Monday Evening) and the Royal party (Wednesday Evening). The position will involve politely telling non-invited people that it is a private event for the night.
If you have any questions, please e-mail at pennsic.major-domo@ eastkingdom.org Or talk to Raziya bint Rusa if you see me at an event.
