Meet the Artist Series #1
Greetings Unto the East from your Champions of Arts and Sciences, Jan Janowicz Bogdanski and Sugawara no Naeme!
Welcome to the first installment of Meet the Artist which are planned to be bi-monthly posts, to spotlight the work of Eastern artisans. While we have only three questions as a way of introduction, we encourage you to seek out these artists, and those around you and ask questions.
On to our first artist of the series: Have you heard of THL Sigvardr Halfdanarson?
His art is available for view: https://www.facebook.com/Sigvardr-Halfdanarson-323510451628337
We were particularly struck by His Lordship’s Gotland Bracelet which you can read more about here: https://moas.eastkingdom.org/sigvardr-halfdanarson/
And now for the questions!
(1) How did you come to practice your art?
It really started when I wanted to have a necklace but didn’t have the money to buy one so I slowly taught myself to make jewelry.
(2) What inspires you to create?
My inspiration comes from the people around me pushing me to be better, and the masters of the past. The details they were able to obtain was incredible.
(3) What is your favorite obscure fact about your art?
Something obscure is that a lot of viking era jewelry was made to weight standards for easy trade and storage of wealth.
Our thanks to THL Sigvardr Halfdanarson for sharing his art with the Kingdom.
Look for another spotlight in two weeks on Meet the Artist Mondays!
