Once and Future Shire Wars Event Updates
The Once and Future Shire Wars Planning Committee is pleased and proud to provide this update on our November 7 online event. For more information on any activity (or to volunteer), go to our website http://www.shirewars.eastkingdom.org.
Shire Wars IS a war. This year’s online event and next year’s in-person event are based on the Battle of Kulikova (September 8. 1380) between the Mongol Golden Horde and various Russian Principalities under the command of Prince Dmitry of Moscow. When you register for the event, you get to choose a side, Rus or Mongol. War points for each competition will be awarded to the winner’s side.
We’ll have two martial activities, with separate competitions for heavy weapons fighter and fencers. The Shire Wars Workout is a workout in armor for individuals and groups. There will also be a speed competition for number of hits on a pell in one minute. All shots need to have power and good mechanics to be counted. War points will also be awarded to each person who participates in the Shire Wars Workout. Send us the videos for both.
There will also be a bardic circle will be hosted by Maîtresse Linette de Gallardon. Please watch our website for scheduling information.
We also want to make a clarification on the SCAvenger Hunt. It isn’t a hunt for items on a list on the day of the event. It’s a hunt for people performing all sorts of activities (make a boffer, do calligraphy, etc.) that are done ahead of time, with videos sent in to be judged by the populace.
To participate in our A&S Display, “A Journal of the Plague Year” or “What I Worked on since Covid” send a picture of your submission to the Shire Wars Webminister via email.
Links to the recipes for the virtual feats are on the website for you to try. If you have any questions about menu items, please contact Mistresss Tirza for more information. Since part of the fun of the feasts is sitting and talking with your friends, we’ll have tables (virtual meetings) that small groups can sign up for, If you would like to host a “table,” please contact the Shire Wars Webminister to have your meeting information and join link added to the list.
And finally, we still have slots open for people who want to teach classes or run activities during the day. Check the web site to see who to contact for A&S, martial, or children’s classes/activities.
See you all at the Once and Future Shire Wars.
