Clarification of Pennsic Variance, from the Society Seneschal
Greetings to the Kingdom Seneschal of the East, Pennsic staff, and all who may read this missive!
From, Mike Watkins, Society Seneschal;
In January 2018 the Board approved a change to the Seneschal’s Handbook regarding parental responsibility for minor children at events.
A few weeks ago, I was requested to issue a variance for Pennsic from the January 2018 Seneschal’s Handbook rules for Pennsic 2019 about minor participation and activity. A variance was granted.
But there are apparently issues and confusion. That was not why the variance was issued. That variance is hereby null and void.
The original May 2, 2019 Pennsic rules for minors can be used as published this year. Future variances, barring emergencies, for Pennsic must be presented within a reasonable period of time before the event for the convenience of all.
Sometimes Society wide rules need special handling and variances have been issued in the past many times for Pennsic. The unique and wonderful nature of the event must be maintained. I apologize for any inconvenience and confusion on my part.
Again, the original May 2, 2019 Pennsic rules for minors can be used as published this year.
At the upcoming Board meeting the January 2018 rules in the Society Seneschal’s Handbook will be reviewed by the Board for needed changes so that some of this confusion will not happen again.
Please distribute far and wide in all Kingdoms involved with Pennsic.
In service and respect,
Mike Watkins
Society Seneschal
