The Making of a Duchess
At the Coronation of Kenric II and Avelina II, Their Majesties called Dukes and Duchesses to come before them and then summoned Kiena Stewart into court. King Kenric spoke of Kiena’s beauty as queen, the welcome she extended to newcomers and her support “of all endeavors practiced in this realm”.
The Earl Marshall presented a mantle, asking Kiena “Do you swear to protect the people of the East, to shield them from harm and to aid those in need?” Kiena answered yes, and the mantle was placed upon her shoulders.
The Seneschale brought forth a Chain of Estate and asked, “Do you swear to uphold the laws of the East and the Society. Will you defend the
rights of the people, of all stations, under these laws?” Kiena again answered yes and the chain was lowered over her head.
A Ducal Coronet was brought forward and presented to Their Majesties. They asked Kiena, “Do you swear to up hold the dignity and responsibilities of your rank; to use this rank and the privilege it confers wisely and justly; to counsel your Monarchs in times of peace and raise armies to defend your Kingdom in times of war?” After she answered yes, the coronet was placed upon her head. Thus, Kiena Stewart was invested as a Duchess.
