Handicapped Thrown Weapons Tournament at Pennsic
The first Annual Handicapped Thrown Weapons Tournament will take place at the Pennsic War on Wed. July 31st at 2 PM at the Thrown Weapons range. All participants should be at the range no later than 1:30 PM.
Lord Alexander Makcristyne, an avid thrown weapons participant who maintains an enviably high Royal Round score despite being disabled, will teach a class on Tues. July 30th at 10 AM where he will present techniques which allow many gentles with physical disabilities to participate safely and successfully in thrown weapons activities. He has also authored a set of guidelines for marshals to help them support handicapped gentles who may want to participate at ranges they are overseeing.
The tournament will features axes only, and will consist of four throws of the axe from a ten to twenty foot distance. Throwing from closer than ten feet from the target is considered unsafe. The scoring will be based on a Royal Round system, with the outside ring being worth one point, the next ring in worth two points, and the center ring worth three points. If the axe sticks anywhere else on the target it is worth ½ point.
The winner will be the person with the highest score after all four throws. In the event of a tie score, a tie-breaking round of another four axes each will be thrown by the two high scorers. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
