Hail Artists and Scientists of the East! Greetings from your Crown A&S champions.

Artisans of the East: This is your official call to action in service of your kingdom: we are in search of a team of mighty champions!

As you may have heard, There is going to be an Arts & Science war point again at Pennsic this year, it will be the fifth year of having one. We are very excited for this, and hope you are too! This is an awesome experience and a significant commitment, and we are holding an open call for entrants until May 22. After that the war point leadership team will look over the applications and choose a team to propose to the Crown.

Entries have been limited again this year, and cannot be research, performing arts, food or drink. All Entries must have been completed since last Pennsic. The rules allow us 10 entrants, but that number has to include artisans from our allies as well. We will need artists to compete in all three scoring categories:
1) Arts & Studio Crafts 3D: armor, beadwork, ceramics, glasswork, lapidary, metalworking, musical instruments, scientific devices, siege weapons & tool making, woodworking
2) Fiber & Clothing: applied beadwork, costuming, dying, embroidery, fiber prep, knitting, knotwork, lacework, naalbinding, needlework, weaving, spinning
3) Domestic Archeology & Lived Objects: animal husbandry, basket weaving, book binding, calligraphy, drawing, herbcraft and apothecary, illumination, leatherworking, paper making, and toy making.

If this sounds interesting to you, we want to hear from you! In order to be considered for the team, please submit a letter of intent to the Minister of Arts and Sciences (moas@eastkingdom.org). Please include the following information:
-SCA Name, Mundane Name, Phone Number
-A description of the work you would be doing for the competition. Photos of the work (even if still in progress) would be EXTREMELY useful to us.
-Links to online examples of your work: blog, photo gallery, store, instagram etc.
-List of places/dates you have displayed or competed with your work.
-Sample documentation is not required, but will be very helpful to us.

Other information you may want to consider before you decide to apply:
-You must be able to attend second Thursday of Pennsic, and willing to stand with your entry during the competition and talk to the populace about it (with breaks!) in addition to going through a live judging.
-Entries will be a single substantial item pre 17th C, or a body of work consisting of related items that are connected to each other in a significant and meaningful way. The body of work will be judged as a single item. If a body of work is from multiple disciplines, it should be of a consistent theme.
-Judging will be done by a panel of judges and will be based on a rubric.

We look forward to hearing from many of you!
Yours in Service,
Þórfinnr Hróðgeirsson and Ástríðr Musi
